Last week we were planning to spend the week in San Francisco for Thanksgiving. Our plan was to leave on Sunday and stay through the Saturday after the Thanksgiving. I got a call Friday afternoon from Tapit for a job interview so our plans quickly changed after I was scheduled for an interview on Monday afternoon. We decided to pack up the car and take the whole family to the interview and head out to SF after my interview. I don’t recommend packing for a week away, holiday traffic and an interview all in one day.
My interview went well with Justin, the COO and Co-Founder was very organic. It was very refreshing to find out that he is a native San Franciscan. This was the first time I had brought my iPad on an interview and it proved to be a great tool to showcase my portfolio. The day before my interview I put together a Keynote Presentation that you can view on iCloud. Tapit made a great impression on me an I left the interview excited about what might develop. I didn’t have to wait long, Wednesday I got a call from Justin offering me a Graphic Designer position with them. So that pretty much kick started my holiday week off on a high note.
Wednesday was also my wife Scotia’s birthday so the job offer was a pretty exciting news for her too. Scotia had wanted to go to the movies for her birthday so we went downtown and saw Hugo at the Metron with Regina. On a side note I checked in on Four Square at the Metron and tweeted my location, bum, bum dumb! I got an auto tweet to fill out a survey to win an iPad, too go to be true…. YES. Needless to say I spent an hour today un-subscribing and getting my phone number removed from some lists. After the movie we headed out to dinner at Dosa, an South Indian restaurant that was delicious!
Thursday was the big Turkey Day and our friend Jason had plans for an amazing Thanksgiving Dinner. Honey glazed and bacon wrapped turkey, creamed corn with 4 cheeses, chanterelle mushrooms and a sweet potate mash were just some of meals highlights. After officially overstuffing ourselves we headed up to the roof of Jason’s place to get some air and see the San Francisco skyline. Great way to send Thanksgiving, family, friends and lots of food.
Friday we planned for a lazy day around Pacifica where Nancy lives. Nancy was out of town for the holiday week so we stayed at her place and looked after her cat Minka. We headed down to the beach and walked out onto the Pier and took some photos. By the way the photo above of the coastline was taken with my iPhone with no effects or enhancement, not bad hun? We spent the afternoon napping and the kids caught up on homework assignments. For dinner we headed into the city and went to our favorite, cheap sushi restaurant, Sakana Bune.
Saturday we headed home to Beaumont to avoid some of the holiday traffic which ended up being a good call. It was nice getting home with Sunday for us to catch up on chores around the house and some relaxing. All in all a great week with family and friends, great food and an added bonus: a new job at Tapit!
