I’ve been learning/reading/playing with everything I can get my hands on that’s Augmented Reality. Today, while organizing some of Ben’s Lego kits, I saw a page with an AR Marker on it. I went to the URL listed under the marker and found that it didn’t work, but a quick Google search got me back on the right track. Once the page loaded, the Flash Movie on the Lego site asked permission to use my webcam. Looks like Lego is making good use of the FLAR Toolkit developed by Saqoosha & nyatla (Developer of NyARToolkit for AS3). One problem I encountered with the AR movie is that on a Mac computer, the webcam defaults to a Google webcam (See Attached). After a little tinkering around with my Flash settings, I changed the camera to USB Video Class and it worked fine. In the video below you will see how the model actually looks in Augmented Reality. You’ll notice one problem I encountered is that the marker that Lego is using is too detailed and the camera couldn’t maintain focus. With other AR sites I’ve used, the Marker is always a very simple yet bold image like on the GE site.
