Coach It
My Two Cents On A Soccer Coaching App

This year was my first coaching my son’s U10 AYSO soccer team. As a new coach I found a tool that made coaching just a bit more productive, the Coach It iPad app. The app has some great features that allow you to manage your practice as well as games. If you are interested in more about the app you can visit the Coach It page.

VIEW CURRENT GUI – This is the interface for Coach It before I worked on it.

With the regular season winding down I was reflecting on how the Coach It app could be improve. I mocked up a couple of screens with my thoughts on how the app could function differently. First the UI is more engaging and follows logic so the coach can interact more efficiently. The top and side bar are consistant and stay in place so you can navigate the app during game play more easily. Here are some of the functions I see that could make this the definitive soccer app.

Address Book Functionality

  • Add Photo
  • Contact Information
  • Primary Positions Played Function

Score Keeping

  • Multiply ways to keep track of game score

Statistics with Charts and Graphs

  • Customizable options
  • Comparison views

Suggestive Positions Option

  • Based on Position and Statistics

Improved Game Time Management

  • Options for game timer to split game into halves or quarters

I also see room for the app to grow and offer a subscription service for a team site. The data that’s already in the app could sync with a CMS that would allow Coaches to build and maintain a team site with minimal effort. Well that’s just my two cents on how things could work, I’ve emailed the developer of the Coach It app with a link to this post and I’ll follow up with any updates.
